Line Tour & Marker Dedication

Scenic Railway Line Tour Test-page-001 Page 1A 1200 The marker is unveiled after a  short speech is given detailing the history of the Scenic Railway trolley car line. Kelly Carnighan, Director of the Silver Hills Historical Society preparing to unveil the New Albany Highland Railway Historical Marker. Dorothy Daugherty Garing, daughter of Charles S. Garing.  Charles Garing was the oldest streetcar operator at age 65 to retire in 1946.  He operated cars to Silver Hills.   Dorothy is sitting next to Chester Hublar.  Both are preparing to ride up the hill to the Marker dedication ceremony. Chester Hublar also rode the Silver Hills trolley car line.  He would ride the electric cars to the top of the hill and back down again to enjoy the cool breeze and beautiful scenery. Helen “Bunny” Hammer and Dorice Roberts enjoy the Society reception held at the home of Nancy and George Everbach’s prior to the Historical Marker dedication ceremony.  Bunny and Dorice both rode the trolley cars as children. Jason Meyer and his children enjoy viewing the old cross ties, which date back to the 1890’s. Railroad ties found buried under Main Street Hill Road and a short section of rail also recovered along the line. Hikers at the Main Street Hill Road crossing.
